Anatomy of an Art Kit

T'was the Friday before school resumed, and the power tools were still humming. The contractors, maintenance crew, faculty, and staff have all been hard at work to get things back to 'normal' here at the renovated Sanford Middle School. While the students will be attending class via video conference starting on Monday, it will be a return to a typical schedule and some of the same routines that would take place during an in-person school day.

The Art Room is looking GOOD! So much S P A C E.

The Art Room is looking a bit Spartan (get it?), but will shortly be decked out with posters and artwork. My primary focus has been to prepare the virtual learning spaces that students will be using and to cobble together Art Kits to send home with students during laptop pickup this week.

What's in an Art Kit?

5th & 6th Graders who have Art for Session 1* received:

  • A Sketchbook
  • A Glue stick
  • A Pencil
  • An Eraser
  • A Box of Crayons
  • A SpARTist sticker
*5th Graders will have Art every day for a three week session each semester. 6th Graders will have Art every day for a three week session once a year.

8th Graders who have Art for Quarter 1* received:
  • A Sketchbook
  • A Glue stick
  • A Pencil
  • An Eraser
  • Colored Pencils
  • One Black Crayon
  • A Sharpener
  • A Watercolor Paintbox
    • Red
    • Yellow
    • Blue
  • A Paintbrush
  • A SpARTist sticker
*8th Graders have Art every day for one quarter a year. 7th Graders unfortunately do not get Art this year.

I realize that a lot of students may have their own Art supplies at home, however passing out Art Kits ensures that all students (who picked up their laptops) have equal access to supplies that they will need to create remotely. Ideally when we resume a Hybrid Model of learning, students will continue to have their own supplies to cut down on materials sharing in the building.
